Weak or No Airflow From Vents

Rooms barely get air

Likely cause
A disconnected or crushed duct, a large leak, a clogged filter or a blocked return can keep air from reaching your rooms.
What we do
We check airflow at each vent, trace it back to the leak or restriction, then repair or reseal the section and confirm the airflow.

Disconnected or Collapsed Duct

Air going to the wrong place

Likely cause
A duct that has come apart or collapsed can send heated and cooled air into the attic or crawl space instead of your rooms.
What we do
We locate the break, reconnect or replace the damaged section and seal it so the air reaches your rooms.

High Energy Bills

Bills climbing, comfort not

Likely cause
Leaky or uninsulated ducts let heated and cooled air escape before it reaches your rooms, so the system runs longer.
What we do

Repair or Replace

Should You Repair or Replace Your Ductwork?

Three things our technicians weigh before recommending duct repair or replacement, plus a quick duct-age check for a ballpark recommendation.

  • Repair when the problem is local

Leaks, a few disconnected joints, torn insulation or a loose boot can usually be sealed or repaired without replacing the whole duct system.

  • Replace when damage is widespread

Crushed, collapsed, undersized or badly deteriorated ducts often cost more to keep patching than to replace with new, properly sized runs.

  • Test first, then decide

We inspect the ducts and run leakage and airflow checks, so the recommendation is based on what we measure, not a guess.

Quick age check

How old are your ducts?

Often a seal or small repair

Newer ducts usually need leak sealing, a reconnected joint or fresh insulation. Poor installation can still cause problems, so we test before recommending work.

Often repair and sealing

The most common range for repairs. Aging mastic, tape and insulation tend to fail here, and sealing plus targeted fixes often restores airflow.

Often partial replacement

Some sections may be worn, crushed or undersized. We usually replace the worst runs and seal the rest, which can cost less than replacing everything.

Often full replacement

Very old ducts may be brittle, collapsed or beyond repair. We test them and recommend full replacement only when repairs will not hold up.

These are ballpark guides only. Request an estimate and we will test your ducts, show you what we find, then give you a written price.

Booking & Trust6 questions

How much does ductwork repair cost?

The cost of a ductwork repair depends on where the leaks or damage are, how easy the ducts are to reach, how much needs to be fixed and the materials involved, so there is no honest flat price over the phone. A licensed technician inspects your ducts first, explains what is wrong and your options in plain English, and gives you the price before any work begins. Call (909) 343-8847 or email Contact@medrarahvac.com to get started.

Will I know the price before the ductwork repair starts?

Yes. After your technician inspects the ductwork, they explain what they found and your options and give you the price. You approve it before any work begins, so there are no surprises on the final bill.

Do you offer next-day ductwork repair appointments?

Yes. We offer next-day ductwork repair appointments when available, and we give you the earliest arrival window when you call. Phone lines are open from 8 AM to 8 PM at (909) 343-8847, and you can email Contact@medrarahvac.com any time and we will get back to you.

Yes. Medrara HVAC is a licensed California contractor, CA LIC# 1042958. You can confirm it in a few minutes on the CSLB Check a License page by searching our license number. Our technicians inspect your ducts, explain what they find in plain English and go over your options before any work begins.

Common Problems6 questions

Why are some rooms in my house too hot or too cold?

Uneven rooms often come from leaky or disconnected ducts, crushed or kinked sections, closed or blocked vents, ducts that are too small for the airflow they need, or a dirty filter. Make sure vents are open and unblocked and replace a dirty filter. If rooms stay uneven, a technician can find where the airflow is being lost. Browse more common ductwork problems.

Why is the airflow from my vents so weak?

Weak airflow can come from a disconnected or collapsed duct, large leaks, a clogged filter, closed dampers or a blower that is not moving enough air. Check the filter and make sure vents are open. If airflow is still weak, call us and we will track down where it is being lost.

How do I know if my ducts are leaking?

Common signs are rooms that never reach the set temperature, higher energy bills, more dust in the home, whistling at vents and loose or separated connections you can see in the attic or crawl space. Attics can get very hot, so leave the inspection to a technician who can check the whole duct run safely.

Why is my home so dusty?

Leaks on the return side of the system can pull dusty air from attics and crawl spaces into the ducts and spread it through your home. A dirty filter, dirty ducts and loose connections can add to it. A technician can find where the air is getting in.

Why is my energy bill so high?

When ducts leak, heated or cooled air escapes before it reaches the rooms, so the system runs longer to make up for it. Disconnected ducts, missing insulation and blocked airflow add to the waste. If your bills climb without a change in how you use your system, schedule a ductwork inspection.

Can leaky ducts make my AC or furnace work harder?

Yes. A system that has to run longer to reach the set temperature wears out parts faster and can break down sooner. Fixing the ducts takes strain off the equipment. If you also have a system problem, see our AC repair and heating repair pages.

Noises, Smells & Air6 questions

Why are my ducts making banging or popping noises?

Metal ducts expand and contract as air heats and cools them, which can cause popping or banging when the system starts or stops. Loud or constant banging can also mean loose or undersized ducts or a blocked return. If it is loud, constant or new, call us and we will check it.

Why do my vents whistle?

Whistling usually means air is being forced through a small gap or restriction, such as a leak, a partly closed vent, a clogged filter or an undersized duct. Check the filter and make sure vents are open. If the whistling continues, a technician can find the source.

Why do my ducts rattle or vibrate?

Rattling often comes from loose connections, loose straps or supports, loose vent covers or debris inside the duct. It can also be carried through the ducts from the blower. A technician can secure loose sections and check the equipment.

Why do my vents smell musty?

A musty smell can point to moisture in the ducts or system, or to debris and buildup that has collected in the airflow path. A smell that lasts is worth having inspected so the cause can be found and fixed.

What if I smell something unusual or hear scratching in the ducts?

Damaged ducts in attics and crawl spaces can let pests in, and a dead animal or nesting material can cause a strong smell. Do not try to open the ductwork yourself. Call us and a technician will inspect it.

What can I safely check before calling for ductwork repair?

Replace a dirty filter, make sure vents and returns are open and unblocked, and check that the thermostat is set correctly. Then stop. Attics and crawl spaces can be hot, cramped and hard to move through, and cutting into or taping over ducts can make problems worse, so leave the rest to a licensed technician.

Repair, Replace & Upkeep6 questions

Can leaky ducts be repaired, or do they need to be replaced?

Many leaks, disconnected joints and damaged sections can be repaired. If the ducts are widely deteriorated, crushed or too small for the system, replacing some or all of them may be the better value. We explain your options and the price for each before any work begins.

How do you seal ductwork?

Technicians seal joints and seams with mastic or metal-backed tape, reconnect separated sections and support loose runs. Ordinary cloth duct tape tends to dry out and fail over time, so it is not the right fix for a lasting repair.

Does duct insulation matter?

Yes. Ducts that run through hot attics or cool crawl spaces lose heat or cooling if they are not well insulated, and missing or damaged insulation can also lead to condensation. A technician can check the insulation during the visit.

How long do air ducts last?

Many duct systems last about 15 to 25 years, depending on the materials, the installation and the conditions in the attic or crawl space. Changing your filter on time and scheduling regular HVAC maintenance helps you catch airflow problems early.

Can my ductwork repair be finished in one visit?

Many repairs can be completed during the same visit when the technician has the materials on hand. If a bigger job or an order is needed, we tell you before you decide, so you know what happens next.

Do you offer financing for larger ductwork projects?

Larger projects may qualify for financing through our partner Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Learn how it works on our HVAC financing page.
